White water rafting tours are offered in three different rivers of the area, good for beginners and experts. Savegre River  (minimum 2 people) Class II and III. One of the most pristine rivers in Costa Rica, perfect for families and young kids. Ages 8 and over.Fun river for beginners and experienced rafters. The Savegre River is considered the most pristine river in Costa Rica. It is the perfect rafting river for families and young kids. During the descent you will have the chance to enjoy the canyons, run fun rapids, hike to a waterfall, and enjoy tropical scenery. Runs all year round. Departure: 8:00 am      Estimated time: 8 hours Includes: Lunch, transportation, and professional equipment. Requirements: Participants must know how to swim, be able to walk in slippery or unstable ground and paddle. Price: $115 per person   Guabo River Class II and III. Half-day tour including an exciting run of 8 miles and a hike to a waterfall. Ages 10 and over.The Guabo River has a lot to offer such as exuberant vegetation, a pristine canyon, pool drop river with a jump rock and an exciting descent. During the run you will have the chance to hike waterfalls, enjoy its richness in wildlife and unique scenery. Runs from August to November. Lowland Birdwatching Tour Hacienda Baru

Short tour: Departure: Monday – Saturday, 6:00 AM, requires prior reservation. Estimated time: 3 hours  Includes: Bilingual guide (English/Spanish), admission fee to Hacienda Barú National Wildlife Refuge, Bird Watching Tower, Medicinal Plant Garden and breakfast. Price: $36 per person. Limit: 8 people per group. Minimum 2 people. Long Tour: Departure: Monday – Saturday, 6:00 AM, requires prior reservation. Estimated time: 5 hours  Includes: Bilingual naturalist guide and typical Costa Rican breakfast, admission Fee to Hacienda Barú National Wildlife Refuge, Bird Watching Tower, Breakfast, and the Medicinal Plant Garden. Requirement: Price: $52 per person Times: Monday – Saturday, 6:00 AM, requires prior reservation. Limit: 12 people per group . Minimum: 2 people. Lowland Bird Watching Hike – Short Version The tour begins with birding the area near the starting point,  just like the long version. From there you visit the lowland trails and beach near the lodge. You are birding during the early hours when the birds are most active. Breakfast is not included with this tour.   Lowland Bird Watching Hike long version The Lowland Bird Watching Hike begins early when the birds are just beginning to wake up. After a cup of coffee we will take you by car to the Hacienda Barú Biological Research Center a couple of kilomenters away. From there you will hike through secondary forest with your sharp-eyed guide. This is an ideal location for spotting tanagers, honeycreepers, toucans, saltators, vireos and others. After about an hour you will arrive at rookery where egrets, herons and ibis are often found. From the rookery you will continue along the edge of the mangrove and complete the loop back to the Biological Research Center where you will enjoy a delicious breakfast of typical Costa Rican food. The final leg of the tour includes secondary forest and the beach, your best opportunities to observe shore birds such as whimbrels, plovers, phalaropes, sandpipers and sanderlings, pelicans and frigatebirds. From the beach it is a short walk back to the Guide Center, where you began.
